McIlroy will Return to Defend Shanghai Masters

The organizers of the Shanghai Masters golf tournament have confirmed in a statement that world number one and two time Major winner Rory McIlroy will return to the event to defend his title later in the year. The $ 7 million event was added to the schedule of the European Tour this year after the exploits of McIlroy last year, when he won the title from a field that consisted of 21 players.

And this year’s edition of the event will be the richest event in the history of the European Tour and will be held between the 25th and 28th of October. The stage will be the same as last year at the Lake Malaren Golf Club in shanghai, China. And the organizers are already excited after getting the confirmation that the world number one Rory McIlroy will indeed be returning to defend his title. (more…)

Stricker sees His Cut Streak Snapped

The day that will be remembered as one during which Matt Kuchar, Kevin Na and Zach Johnson raced up to the top of the leader board of the US PGA Players Championship, will also be remembered as the one in which the consecutive cut streak of Steve Stricker came to an end. The resident of Madison, originally from Edgerton was on a run of 49 straight cuts in all the events that he had participated in, which is, easily the longest streak of consecutive cuts by an player currently active on the PGA Tour but on the 11th of May, 2012 he followed his four over 7f in the first round with a 74, meaning that it will be the first time that he will miss the cut having done so the last time at the PGA Championship in 2009.

Gary Woodland made 22 consecutive cuts, Webb Simpson had 18, Hunter Mahan had 16, and Matt Kuchar took up the mantle with 17 cuts made, on a day that saw some of the top guns of the PGA tour struggle on the course. Rory McIlroy became the first world number one since Greg Norman almost 16 years back in 1996 to miss the cut at the Players Championship as well.

But all day, the talk was about the snapping of the longest cut streak of Steve Stricker and the man himself, was visibly unhappy at the fact that he missed out on the cut, having done so well in all the events that he participated in previously.

But if there is one golfer who will not let this little setback get to his head and move on easily, it is Steve Stricker, who is already making preparations for the upcoming events that he will be participating in after his early exit from the TPC Sawgrass.

KUCHAR SET FOR HUMANA

Matt Kuchar is quite confident about the fact that he will make the year 2012 quite a success. The start of the year with the PGA Tour is definitely going to be one of the tournaments he will be looking forward to. There has been quite a change in his schedule of events as well as he plans to follow a new routine and set up for bringing about success to his ventures. He is usually a regular visitor to the tournament at Hawaii but this year it is going to be different. Matt Kuchar has decided to start off his tournament championship at Humana Challenge and then move on to Hawaii.

Humana has even changed its format this year with the introduction of four rounds rather than that of the five rounds which used to be followed till now. Apart from that, Matt Kuchar has had an excellent track record when it comes to playing for the Humana Challenge. He has been quite excited and hopes that he can manage to bring about a lot of changes in his game play and skills and expertise.

Apart from the format of the Humana Challenge, the other reasons given as a justification for opting to take part in the Humana before any other event was the fact that he enjoyed playing on the course which the Humana Challenge is involved in. Matt Kuchar did have quite a good number of chances last year to have actually come out victorious, but it all ended up in silly blunders due to which he is really determined and adamant that he will bring about a change this year to his style of playing and actually make up for all the mistakes he made prior to this in the last year

WI TEAMS UP WITH KIA

Michelle Wie has teamed up with Kia Motors America in order to do some good work – presenting the Armed Services YMCA of Camp Pendleton with a fifty thousand donation. This act of generosity and good will came during the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour at the La Costa Resort and Spa on the 22nd of March.

This humble donation of Michelle Wie will be going to the ASYMCA’s Operation Hero Programme which takes care of the after school tutoring and mentoring to elementary school aged children at no cost at all. The aim of this programme is to pave the way for a brighter and more advanced tomorrow.

George Brown who is the executive director of the Camp Pendleton ASYMCA said that they are very grateful to Michelle Wie and Kia Motors America for making such a donation to their programme and helping them with their cause. He admitted to the fact that the programme was a very critical one and hence the donation will be helping the programme immensely and hence he and his team at the organisation are most grateful to them.

Tom Loveless, the Vice President of the Kia Motors America saw this opportunity of making a donation as a way of giving back to the society and to a good and worthy cause. He said that their headquarters are located in Irvine and hence Camp Pendleton is like their very own community. He said that this donation is their way of showing their appreciation and admiration to the sacrifices made by the members of the ASYMCA. He said that it is an opinion that they share with Michelle Wie and hence partnering with her in this venture makes a lot of sense and is very meaningful indeed.

This was indeed a very emotional gesture for Wie because (accoring to the Michelle Wie stats) she herself attended the YMCA as a child. She commented saying that she is a very big advocate of education and showing love and gratitude towards those who serve the country and the citizens selflessly.

She said that she wants the kids of this organisation to know that even though they go through a lot of pain and hard times, they need to stick with their education as it can make them realise their dreams in a good and positive manner. She believes that education is the most powerful tool that one can equip a child with.

The employees and the children of this organisation were available and present at the ceremony and hence could witness the donation personally.
