McIlroy To Take Part In Wentworth PGA Championship

There is confirmation from Rory McIlroy that he will be taking part in the BMW PGA Championship to take place in May at Wentworth. If you are a close follower of this PGA player, then you would know that this is the course that has given him lots of frustration in the past.

McIlroy will be making his first appearance in the European circuit in 2018 at the Wentworth PGA Championship. McIlroy had won the event in 2014 and was not able to take part in the event last year due to a rib joint injury. In fact, the injury troubled him all through the last season.

He will be competing with the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, the number one European player in the refurbished West course. This will be the first of the eight Rolex series tournaments.

Tiger Woods replaced by James as most valuable sports brand

Former world number one Tiger Woods hasn’t been having the best of times on the course for some time but now, that misery has been compounded even more off the field after Forbes recently published its annual report which shows the Tiger has been displaced as the top brand in sport by basketball sensation LeBron James.

For someone like Tiger, who has had the worst year of his career perhaps, injuring himself first and then reinjuring himself, being replaced by James is the worst thing that could happen to him, especially considering the fact that despite his off field problems, he had been going steady in terms of endorsements for the past five or six years.

According to the latest report that has been published by Forbes, Tiger Woods comes in at second place with an estimated value of $ 36 million but Lebron James takes the cake as sports’ most valuable brand with a value estimated in the region of $ 37 million.

People close to Forbes and the brand value marketing estimate that Woods has been dealt a huge blow after EA Sports announced that it will no longer develop the video game that bore his name.

Forbes uses a very complicated formula to determine the brand value of players but no matter what formula they use, getting Woods back to the top in the next few years looks increasingly difficult with the player suffering from a bad patch of form since 2008, the last time he won a major title.

Tiger Woods is ruled out till at least December and missed the United States’ defeat in the Ryder Cup recently and until and unless he gets his career back on track, things will not look up for the former world number one and arguably the greatest golfer of the generation.

Justin Rose sets British hopes high

Justin Rose the English man showed great prowess on the USPGA championship by shooting his lowest round of the week on Saturday, however this necessarily did not make him a man without mistakes and later regrets.

Justin Rose climbed quickly but steadily to the top 25 where in a crisp 67, he birdied four of his first seven holes. He posed a threat to his own winning after he bogeyed at the 15th and 16th.Rose closed in 37 places to reach 25 owing to his choice of shots; he went for the halfway cut by a shot only after rounds of 70 and 72. Rory Mcllroy showed great control and focus when he was just four strokes away from Rose, when the latter added another birdie at the 13th. Mcllroy had still not started his third round, undoubtedly making him this season’s favorite.

Though Rose slipped back a few standings on the leader board after dropping a couple of late shots, however, it was overall a good round of 67. “Those two shots that I dropped cost me hard even though I managed to get one back with a birdie at 18th. I knew I had to give it my all, go out all blazing guns and stuff, but looking back at the end, I know that I only did half of what I was supposed to do,” said Rose.

The competition got fierce between Scottish Marc Warren and English Danny Willet. While Warren managed to secure a place within the top 20 shooting a 66; Willet tactfully birdied the 10th and at 31 shots was at the turn. Willet too finished with a 66 that closed the distance between him and the lead by just three shots leaving him six under. “I cannot afford mistakes like this again,” Justin told reporters.

A generation apart – Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler have set the pace for a younger generation to take interest and indulge in golf, but Rory shows the expertise of a man experienced for his age.

The Sunday afternoon match had Fowler and McIlroy display a spectacular show that defines the new age golf as a young man’s game. McIlroy’s victory at the Valhalla was exciting and at the same time marveling, nonetheless the finish had been an amazing race.

While Rory McIlroy succeeded so much in the golf arena, he has seen his share of bad lucks and bad performances. While dating the beautiful and lovely Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, McIlroy’s golf took a hard blow, and after their three year romance and engagement ended in a heartbreak McIlroy was heard saying, “What happened to me was for the better, my golf had suffered till date but now I have time for myself and the first love of my life.” After this Rory has only come out stronger, while the Wozniacki is supposedly struggling on the tennis front owing to this.

Rory has been in excellent form and his level of concentration and focus are worth mentioning. Every player in the tournament so far has given more than their best but in Rory McIlroy’s case it can safely be said that he put in a bit extra. The dimming lights could not faze this young professional and he rushed up to the 18th quickly, smiling when the sun came out the next day.

Rory’s most significant shot in the entire championship undoubtedly has to be the streaky wood at the 10th that incidentally earned him an eagle that he hit with perfect confidence and extreme courage. Officials have said, “McIlroy can easily earn £50 million year, by showing such promising play.”

American golfer Bubba Watson was forced to withdraw after only the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational which was being played at Bay Hill, on Thursday. The golfer cited allergies as the reason for his withdrawal and it seems like some sort of a pollen reaction. Bubba Watson is a well known golfer in these parts as he hails from Isleworth in Windermere, which is not quite far. As a result, the withdrawal was a shock for his fans that were rooting for the home boy.

Bubba Watson apologized to his fans on Twitter saying that he is sorry for his withdrawal and cited allergies to the reason that made him quite uncomfortable. The apology came within hours of the event and it was a relief for the fans who suspected some sort of injury.

At the sixth hole, Bubba was unable to play the right shot and ended up with three tee balls in the water and it is only in the seventh shot, that he managed to hit the right rough. But he again missed his hot on the eighth and eventually two – putted in the eleventh shot.
