Tiger Woods replaced by James as most valuable sports brand

Former world number one Tiger Woods hasn’t been having the best of times on the course for some time but now, that misery has been compounded even more off the field after Forbes recently published its annual report which shows the Tiger has been displaced as the top brand in sport by basketball sensation LeBron James.

For someone like Tiger, who has had the worst year of his career perhaps, injuring himself first and then reinjuring himself, being replaced by James is the worst thing that could happen to him, especially considering the fact that despite his off field problems, he had been going steady in terms of endorsements for the past five or six years.

According to the latest report that has been published by Forbes, Tiger Woods comes in at second place with an estimated value of $ 36 million but Lebron James takes the cake as sports’ most valuable brand with a value estimated in the region of $ 37 million.

People close to Forbes and the brand value marketing estimate that Woods has been dealt a huge blow after EA Sports announced that it will no longer develop the video game that bore his name.

Forbes uses a very complicated formula to determine the brand value of players but no matter what formula they use, getting Woods back to the top in the next few years looks increasingly difficult with the player suffering from a bad patch of form since 2008, the last time he won a major title.

Tiger Woods is ruled out till at least December and missed the United States’ defeat in the Ryder Cup recently and until and unless he gets his career back on track, things will not look up for the former world number one and arguably the greatest golfer of the generation.
